All you require is a very small amount of common sense to avoid these scammers.
But therein lies the problem. As it is obvious that "common" sense isnt actually all that common.

bf nearly fell for that present scam today..he would have accepted it too if i had not looked first. i really dont feel sorry for people who do fall for it..including the bf. its their own fault imo..its not hard to check before you buy. probably the most stupid thing ive seen...not exactly a scam but similar. a friend went to buy an emerald blade after i got one..and paid 70e for a q13 emerald edge..he thought they were the same thing....xD

Cause common sense is unreliable.
"Heavier things fall faster for sure."
"Whales are fishes."

Scams usually play off peoples greed. Stop being so greedy and you wont have anything to worry about.

Hey Mate can you send me the link to where we send screenshots and our complaint? Ive looked but keep running into dead ends, you can PM me if its against the rules.
Ive had the same person twice try scam me with the wintersday/special presents trick, but they log off or put me on ignore straight away. so i cant report them.
But this last time I was a bit smarter, and took screen shots of him advertising before i messaged him and in the actual trade window and his messages to me etc.
So im sure i can get somewhere with this and get him suspended and save a bit of heartache for some other people that might get scammed.
cheers for any help.

QFT. It's quite simple. Check what the other person is putting in the trade window. In fact, check BEFORE you even put anything in yours to further lessen the chance you won't go greedy and hit accept immediately.
I do think the scammers oughta go die in a fire, but still if you got scammed because you didn't look at the trade window then you sorta deserved it. (I Know OP didn't get scammed I'm just saying this to the rest of the people) I have only ever been scammed ONCE in my entire life in a game and that was years ago in diablo 2 before GW even came out. I learned the hard way and I was that much more wise for the future, lol. In GW, I've probably had two or three incidents where someone put in 100g instead of 100k, simply closed the trade window and walked away to see "Chrisworld is a scammer dont buy from him he dosent keep his word!!!!" LoL...

It all could be summarized by the following given values:
every1 scams, and no1 cares.
So, [CYOA] Cover Your Own Ass!

Incorrect.
Anet cares as evidenced by people being suspended for such activities. Including banning those that continue after the first warning.
While CYOA is a good suggestion, so is "Report the bastages till they all die in a fire."

I sent 3 pics to anet with details, one of him advertising the gifts, one of him in trade accepting with the fake/scam gifts, and one of him leaving the district fast when he realised i wouldnt accept lol
also provided them with all the details, time etc etc
hopefully some action will be taken and might save someone some grief..

While I see your point they were all reasonable assumptions at the time.
Assuming everybody is an honest person on the internet =/= reasonable assumption of this day and age.

If buying expensive things, always check the price before you buy it (PC on Guru is best, trusting random people in kamadan is not a good idea). For example, if something normally cost 30e and they sell it to you for 50e... they ripped you off.
|
Sorry but oversell or sell for less an item is not a scamm.
Force to buy/sell for that price maybe is a scamm, but just write WTS/WTB xxx for xxx is not a scamm sry..ppl can check, get info/prices and decide to buy/sell.

Just for a bit of feedback if anyone is interested, I got my 2nd email back from Ncsoft today and they said they had confirmed a violation and that players account has been suspended, they didnt say how long though.
So there is a bit of justice
